Black Panther (2018)
For a man who disapproves of diplomacy, you're getting quite good at it.
Welcome to Wakanda! Marvel lets rip in this subversive, uproarious African superhero adventure which elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights and brings Afrofuturism into the mainstream.
Picking up from Captain America: Civil War, T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to the African kingdom of Wakanda, regarded by the outside world as poor and primitive. Within its impenetrable mountain borders though, is a prosperous, sophisticated, technologically advanced society. Its wonders - mono-rails, flying cars, et al - are powered by the secret energy source, the miraculous element vibranium, which also powers the bodysuit which transforms T'Challa into superhero Black Panther. Back home T'Challa is supported by an awful lot of pretty awesome women - secret agent Lupita Nyong'o, inventor Letitia Wright, and (non-female!) Forest Whitaker as his Adviser. You'd think that if T'Challa could just protect Wakanda from the outside world, it would be Paradise found, but no such prospect: there is a pretender to T'Challa's throne, the CIA are about, and word of the valuable vibranium has leaked out...
