The Social Network (2010)
We lived on farms, then we lived in cities, and now we're going to live on the internet!
We’re back at The Hoxton, Shoreditch for, as noted by Peter Bradshaw, an “exhilaratingly hyperactive, hyperventilating portrait of an age when Web 2.0 became sexier and more important than politics, art, books – everything.”
Capturing the fever of Facebook’s startup, The Social Network perfectly portrays the fanatical rivalry that induced one of the biggest phenomenons of the internet age. The mile-a-minute dialogue (straight from a script by the great Aaron Sorkin) and acutely accurate characterisations of the sites main players gives this film a compelling intensity. Jesse Eisenberg is perfectly cast as Facebook’s driving force Mark Zuckerberg, and is supported with some great turns from Justin Timberlake, Rooney Mara and Andrew Garfield. The Social Network is a clever film, unravelling the personal stories that led to the sites genesis and revealing that behind a smilier, friendly Facebook facade are some more spiteful origins. Due respect to David Fincher for another insightful work. Enjoy an evening with us in East London, where all tickets include a cocktail and popcorn on arrival. Surely that’s worth a ‘like’?
