SOLD OUT - O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
I am a man of constant sorrow, I've seen trouble all my days.
Special Fundraising Screening for Kids Company
Join us in the hidden heart of Marylebone for a bit of Southern comfort and adventure!
Meet Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney), sweet and simple Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) and the perpetually angry Pete (John Turturro), three escapees from a Mississippi prison chain gang. Deep in the Southern heat in Depression Era America, these three lovable con men jump their chain gang confines and set out on the harrowing task of working their way back home. Along the way, they’re out to recover the mythical cache of money stashed after a wily bank job. But their journey, which includes encounters with gangsters, a cyclops and some sirens, proves more eventful than they anticipated.
Helped on their journey the superb period-specific soundtrack - nothin' but bluegrass, folk and country - from producer/musician T-Bone Burnett and Virginia bluegrass singer Ralph Stanley and a host of musical cameos including the dulcit tones of Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris. In yet another classic piece of filmmaking from the Coen Brothers, this film is a bonafide country-fried ode to Homer's The Odyssey. Taking you on a journey into the politics, traditions and institutions of 1930s America, you won't want to miss an evening full of deep belly laughs and more Southern twang than you can handle... and look out for Coen Bros regluar John Goodman too!
