We Two Dear Men, by Roland Eve
We Two Dear Men
Set in Pompeii the day before the eruption of Vesuvius, Roland Eve makes a directorial debut this year at Surrey Showcase.
A piece of graffiti has been found in Pompeii which reads “Hic fiumus cari duo nos sine fine sodales nomina si quaeris Caius et Aulus erant” – “We two dear men, friends forever, were here. If you want to know our names, they are Gaius and Aulus.”
This play is a conversation between these two men on the evening before the eruption of Vesuvius which buried the city under 82 feet of ash leaving it hidden and abandoned for hundreds of years. Gaius is planning to seek his fortune in Rome, and Aulus is concerned about signs of impending danger.
