Regularly on critics' Top 100 Films lists, Almodóvar’s well-loved farce was inspired by the screwball Hollywood comedies of the '30s and '40s.  Typically, the plot revolves around a group of fabulous women who would be just fine if it wasn't for the perfidious men in their lives!  Actress Pepa (Carmen Maura), distraught over the suspected infidelty of her lover, is diverted from suicide by the arrival of her friend who fears the police are after her on account of her terrorist boyfriend.  Complications abound when Pepa's lover's son (a young Antonio Banderas) arrives to look at renting the spare room...

PLUS - Stars of the current West End musical adaptation of Women on the Verge... Tamsin Greig and Haydn Gwynne, join us for a live Q&A after the film.  Greig is known equally for television (Green Wing, Episodes) as theatre, with some fans also relishing her occasional appearances as Debbie in The Archers.  Similarly versatile, Gwynne started in television satire before concentrating on stage work. Recently she played Margaret Thatcher to Helen Mirren's Queen in The Audience.  Both actors were nominated for Olivier Awards this year for their roles in Women on the Verge.
