Cult director Takeshi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) delivers a bravado period action film set at the end of Japan's feudal era. A group of unemployed samurai are enlisted to bring down a sadistic warlord and prevent him from ascending to the Shogun council and plunging the country into a bloody and chaotic future. Takeshi Miike restrains his controversial maniacal style and brings us an epic, stylish and bloody samurai epic. Samurai films have a rich history, and Miike evokes it elegantly with traditional costumes, idealistic dialogue, sharp characterizations, and a gloriously choreographed fight sequence… terrifically entertaining.
