The screening takes place on Buck Hill in the North of Kensington Gardens, nearest to Lancaster Gate tube. Entrance is via Marlborough Gate opposite the tube on Bayswater Road - turn left at the fountains as soon as you enter, then take the second footpath on the right, and you should see our screen on the right behind the playground… See you there!

The third and final screening in our weekend mini-season of “American Vistas” under the stars in beautiful Kensington Gardens. Having taken you to the fictional 50s town of Seahaven for The Truman Show and the American midwest for Thelma and Louise, we invite you to join us as we travel to the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and the frozen plains of Minnesota for arguably the Coen Brothers’ best film, Fargo.

This was the film that really cemented the Coens’ place in the US filmmaking Hall of Fame, drawing no end of critical plaudits, award nominations and box office (and subsequent DVD) success. The cast is absolutely perfect, drawing on contributions from longtime Coen collaborators Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy and Peter Stormare, and built on the foundation of Frances McDormand’s Oscar-winning performance as heavily pregnant town sheriff, Marge Gundersen, surely one of the most quietly memorable and impressive female characters ever committed to the big screen? Two other Coen loyals, composer Carter Burwell and cinematographer Roger Deakins, are onboard here and both play their part in creating a sense of bleak, existential unease, against which the hapless humans unravel in tragifarce. In contrast to the cold cruelty meted out to their characters, the Coens’ creation of Marge is something wonderful, a reassuring beacon of warmth and hope in the midst of the great mess. The other notable character in Fargo is the “Minnesota nice” dialect, sure to have you sharing a few life-affirming “Yah, you betcha”s with your buddies, as you leave the Gardens…

Plus! Dress with an essence of the film as we’ll have the fabulous Photo Booth Out of Order joining us, along with their bespoke Fargo set - not to be missed.

The unpredictability of the British weather is legendary and when you’re in the Nomad’s care it shall be no different. All we will say is that it may be worth your while bringing some snowshoes, even if the sun is shining…

Why not join us on Friday and Saturday nights at Kensington Gardens too? On Friday 15 July we present Jim Carrey in Peter Weir’s brilliantly prophetic The Truman Show, and on Saturday 16 July we transport you to the US midwest for Ridley Scott’s iconic road movie, Thelma and Louise. Bring a blanket or low chair and something warm to slip on after sunset.

Spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!

We’ll be doing 20 Nomad events in London’s Royal Parks this year - view the full schedule for Royal Parks outdoor cinema.

Please note that for public safety and environmental reasons, glass is not permitted anywhere in the Royal Parks. If bringing a picnic, please bring plastic cups and plastic bottles instead. Many thanks.

The screening takes place on Buck Hill in Kensington Gardens. Entrance via Magazine Gate from the south or Marlborough Gate on Bayswater Road from the north. Nearest tube Lancaster Gate.
