Join us for a one-off special screening of Baz Luhrmann’s dazzling and sumptuous Romeo + Juliet in the wonderful setting of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Pure hurtling passion, this. Luhrmann lit a rocket under the well-known tale of star-cross’d lovers, swapped daggers for guns, ‘fair Verona’ for Verona beach - a brilliantly decaying hybrid of Miami Beach and Mexico City - and sent his camera careering across beautiful and lurid sets, beautiful young actors, to a Nellee Hooper-overseen soundtrack of pumping MTV-friendly rock, taking in The Cardigans, Kym Mazelle and Radiohead. Leonardo di Caprio and Clare Danes are perfectly cast at the centre of this, with solid support in the shape of Paul Sorvino, Pete Postlethwaite, Brian Dennehy and John Leguizamo, memorable as fiery Tybalt.
The unique surroundings of Regent’s Park Open Air theatre provide the backdrop for this Nomad Cinema special, with a few surprises lined up to bring the film to life under the stars. As with all our outdoor screenings, we would suggest that you bring something warm to wear for after sunset. The theatre is a 10min walk from Baker Street underground station. There will be hot and cold food, hot drinks and a full licensed bar on site.
