Whether you are by yourself or celebrating with friends and family, it can be hard to come up with an idea of what to do for your birthday. The day may start to seem as not that important as you get older as well, and you may not think it is worth doing anything special.
But your birthday is important and should be celebrated properly. Whether you want to do something small but meaningful or go all out, you will be full of ideas of things to do for your birthday after this article.
12 Things to Do for Your Birthday
1. Do a Bar Crawl or Wine Tasting
Trying out a lot of different drinks or going on a wine tasting can be somewhat expensive, and something you usually avoid doing to save money. However, on your birthday, it’s always a good idea to treat yourself.
You can either take a weekend and go to a winery or craft brewery that you’ve always wanted to visit, or you can try out local ones that you haven’t gotten around to yet. Maybe you will find a local place you enjoy and will want to visit again.
2. Adopt a Plant
Adopting a pet can be a lot of responsibility, and probably not something you should do on a whim on your birthday. Adopting a plant, though, can be a lot more fun, and requires less care. Go to your local nursery and find a cute plant that you want to take care of.
If you suffer from chronically neglecting your plants, you may want to choose something like a succulent that can be forgotten about for a while and still bounce back. If you tend to over-care for your plants though, a tropical one that needs a lot of water and sunlight might be a better option.
Not sure if you want to be responsible for any living thing, even just a plant? There are apps available on both iOS and Android that let you take care of both plants and animals with no actual responsibility or negative consequences if you aren’t able to take care of them for a day or two.
3. Go and Get Your Fortune Read
Don’t overlook this one. Even if you don’t believe in getting your fortune read, it can still be a fun experience. You can bring friends and see who gets the best fortune, or try and imagine how your life might play out if the fortune did come true.
Who knows, you may even find yourself having a goal for a future that you might not have thought about beforehand.
4. Get a Photoshoot
When we think about photoshoots, we often think about them in terms of pictures to give out to others. However, you can get pictures taken to improve your self-confidence, or just enjoy yourself.
You can make the photographs fun, with balloons and birthday themes, or you can make yourself feel sexy and desirable with a professional boudoir photographer. Enjoy yourself and find something you are happy with.
5. Treat Yourself to Breakfast in Bed
If you have a partner or a spouse, see if they would be willing to make you breakfast in bed so you can start your day in the lap of luxury. You can wake up to delicious smells and have a tasty meal without having to get ready for the day.
Even if you don’t have someone willing to cook for you, you can still get breakfast in bed. Order from your local restaurant with a food delivery app and enjoy yourself without having to cook. You will have to drag yourself over to the front door, but then you can crawl right back into bed.
Get your favorite guilty pleasure food, or something new and exciting from a restaurant you have been dying to try.
6. Spend the Weekend Camping
If you like the outdoors and disconnecting from the modern world, consider a weekend of camping. Get away from friends, family, and the daily grind to enjoy yourself and experience nature.
Go by yourself, visiting campgrounds you haven’t gone to in a long while, or follow your feet and end up somewhere new. And don’t worry if you live somewhere that is cold and snowy around your birthday. Just consider traveling a little further south to somewhere it is a bit warmer during the winter, and pack up the thicker gear.
Going camping by yourself may remind you why you enjoy being outdoors so much, and entice you to enjoy your weekend by going outside more often.
7. Stay in Bed All Day
If you are enjoying breakfast in bed, there’s no rush to get out of your warm sheets. Bring all of your favorite things to your bedroom, and enjoy your day just lounging on your soft mattress. Finish that book you’ve been reading, watch TV, listen to a podcast, or just get caught up on some much-needed sleep.
8. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride
Taking a hot air balloon ride might not be anything you’ve thought about doing, but it can be a fun way to celebrate your special day. See the local area from a new perspective and enjoy the fresh air and wind in your hair.
9. Get Out of the House
Do you usually spend your days inside? Maybe you go straight from work to home, or maybe you even work from home. If that is the case, you can make your birthday stand out by going out for the day. Go to local small businesses, like coffee shops, bookstores, and antique shops.
You can spend the whole day just window shopping, or you can buy new decor, movies, clothes, and books to read. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a delicious drink or lunch along the way.
10. Buy Tickets to Your Favorite Band
Even if there isn’t a concert for your favorite band anywhere near you for your birthday, you can spend a little money on yourself and go ahead and purchase tickets for a future concert. That way, when the time comes, you don’t have to worry about buying the tickets or hoping the event isn’t filled.
If you want, you can pick a local concert, or go out of your way to visit them at a better venue as part of a whole week or weekend adventure.
11. Hire a Private Chef
Want a delicious meal, but don’t feel like going out to eat at a restaurant? You may want to think about hiring a personal or private chef. You can find one to hire for a meal, a day, or even a couple of days. If you contact them in advance, you can ensure they aren’t busy on the day of your birthday.
Then you can spend the day enjoying yourself and know that you have an amazing meal that will be ready for you when you are ready to eat. Depending on who you hire, you may be able to pick out a meal or find yourself enjoying a nice surprise.
12. Binge Watch or Read Your Favorite Series
If you don’t have anything to do in the days leading up to your birthday, or following it, consider rereading or rewatching your favorite series. You’d be surprised how happy it can make you feel, and how much you might have forgotten since the last time you experienced your series.
It doesn’t matter if it is a series you just recently found or one that you’ve enjoyed since childhood. Embrace your guilty pleasures on your birthday, and enjoy the things you often don’t have time for in your everyday life.
