Amélie (Audrey Tautou) isn’t like other girls. She watched her goldfish disappear in a municipal swimming pool right before her very eyes, her mother died in Notre Dame Square, and her father dotes on a garden gnome. Now twenty-two, her hide-and-seek mission in Montmartre is to bring a little magic to other people’s lives. Amélie meets a lonely kook called Nino Quincampoix (Matthieu Kassovitz), and maybe it’s time for Amélie to get a taste of her own medicine.
Absolutely magical. Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film will surely go down as one of the most beautifully shot films of all time; jam-packed with wonderful images, sequences and actors. We liked the gnome thing - you know, the postcards. So we’re inviting you to bring with you on the night, free of charge, your own gnome. Gnomes like to get out once in a while.
“A fable filled with longing, with a heroine who constantly flirts with failure…a dazzling achievement” The New Yorker.
