(A BOUT DE SOUFFLE)

Jean-Luc Godard’s tale of a small-time Parisian crook on the run (Jean Paul Belmondo) and his romance with a hip American newspaper girl (Jean Seberg) is chic, sexy and achingly cool.

Smoking Lucky Strikes in bed, musing on the nature of love and stealing cars to keep ahead of the cops, this is groundbreaking, iconic French New Wave and at the same time simply an irresistible, if doomed, love story. Written by François Truffaut, Breathless is louche, Parisian and existential, but at the same time a love letter to Hollywood, as our young French wide-boy smokes and ponders Humphrey Bogart, and falls fatally in love with an American blonde.

Part of our Love, International mini-series at Hyde Park Lido this summer. Make a weekend of it and catch Wong Kar-Wai’s stunning In The Mood for Love on Friday 20th September too.

French/English with English Subtitles

PLEASE NOTE: there is ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS PERMITTED at Hyde Park Lido [or in any of The Royal Parks]. You are welcome to BYO picnic, including alcohol [in plastic bottles / cans!] and/ or enjoy the catering on site.
