“Hold me.”
“I can’t.”

Johnny and Wynona… Johnny and Kate… Johnny and Vanessa… These have all been but passing phases compared to the enduring relationship of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. And, nearly twenty years ago [gasp!], this much-loved melancholy-kitsch masterpiece is where it all began.

Avon lady Peg, played by the totally marvellous Dianne Wiest [Parenthood, The Lost Boys, Bullets over Broadway] finds Edward alone in his castle. Created by a benevolent but totally bananas inventor, guess what Edward has at the end of his arms instead of fingers and thumbs? Yup, scissors. Not exactly convenient. Peg decides to take him back to her perfect little town that runs like clockwork, where Edward must learn about the outside world. Here he soons becomes besotted with Peg’s beautiful daughter Kim, played by Winona Ryder [Reality Bites, Beetlejuice] before she was a Girl, Interrupted. And it’s fair to say… with complications such as love….things start to get a little…dicey [sorry!].

A beautiful twist on the genre of fairytale, this very special piece of cinema exemplifies Tim Burton’s trademark joining together of the gothic and the glorious, to bring you something deliciously macabre, touching and delightful. And where better to check out one of Burton’s eerie treats than in a magnificently spooksome cemetery?

Part of Nomad’s Magical-Mystical series at our most popular venue, Brompton Cemetery, where you can also catch the unnervingly cool Donnie Darko this year. We like to spoil you.
