“Lust. Seduction. Revenge. The Game as you’ve never seen it played before.”
Join us in the elegant and swoonsome surroundings of Fulham Palace for a celebration of heaving bosoms, powdered wigs, sly sexual machinations and general aristocratic French naughtiness. Bring your wine, your picnic, your finest stockings (gents) and your flirtiest demeanour for an evening of Rococo Royal Court posing, scheming and wooing, climaxing in a special screening under the stars of Stephen Frears’ 1988 Hollywood debut, starring the incredible John Malkovich and Glenn Close - both having a ball as arch baddies - in the lead roles of the Vicomte Sebastian de Valmont and the Marquise Isabel de Meurteuil.
It’s a sumptuous film, more than worthy of the Oscars it picked up for Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay for Christopher Hampton, who adapted the script from his own play, based on the 18th century novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.
Alors mesdames et messieurs, we look forward to making your acquaintance and enjoying a little of your company. May we recommend a blanket or low chair to sit on and perhaps something warm to cover yourself after sunset? Until then…
