“Far-fetched, fantasy and fear” is the heading under which The Nomad presents three very different, very brilliant films at beautiful Bushy Park on three Thursday evenings this summer. Our first film brings the fear – it’s Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds…
Keep your eyes on the skies and on the branches of the many beautful chestnut and lime trees which line Bushy Park’s wide avenues. And how about that Pheasantry Centre – should we be concerned? Hmm. Hitchcock was captivated by the idea behind Daphne du Maurier’s 1952 novella but instructed his screenwriter to forget everything about it, except the title and the idea of birds attacking humans without explanation. And that’s pretty much what the great director plays with in this 1963 follow-up to Psycho; the dialogue is sparse, the soundtrack restricted to bird calls and screeches, and the tension is built up slowly, slowly, until a series of terrifying set pieces are unleashed, culminating in that famous ending.
If you’re scared of flying things, this evening under the stars certainly isn’t for you because The Nomadites has a couple of scares up our sleeves to make even the keenest orinthologist keep one eye on the trees above.
Join us for three nights of cinema al fresco, under the stars in Bushy Park. We’ll also be showing Hayao Miyazaki’s animated masterpiece, Spirited Away on Thursday 4 August, with Wolfgang Petersen’s wonderful family fantasy The Neverending Story completing our trio of screenings on Thursday 25 August.
Spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!
We’ll be doing 20 Nomad events in London’s Royal Parks this year - view the full schedule for Royal Parks outdoor cinema.
