Our pair of screenings are part of Latin Summer at the Horniman Museum and Gardens - its fantastic events programme has been devised along a Latin American theme.
The events begin on 7 July with a big dance celebration in the Horniman Gardens, featuring Latin dance workshops, live music and site-specific dance performances created by Trinity Laban.
In July, two renowned period ensembles, Florilegium and Amphion Consort, will present two classical music concerts inspired by Latin-American composers, while in August, free weekly bandstand concerts will celebrate Latin American music from Colombia, Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil.
On 16 August, the Museum will open its doors after hours for a Latin Late, featuring Argentinean tango workshops and demonstrations in the Horniman Victorian Conservatory, Mexican storytelling, Latin folk music in the galleries, and much more.
Our two outdoor film screenings also pop up in August: Central Station and The Motorcycle Diaries by Brazilian director Walter Salles.
The Museum’s family programme will also have a Latin American theme, with Latin craft and dance workshops and storytelling.
Finally, a big Latin fiesta in the Horniman Gardens will close the summer programme on 1 September featuring carnival performances from Brazil, Argentinean tango, brass bands from Mexico, and dance music from Peru and Colombia.
