Pop-up cinema screening of The Inbetweeners Movie at Whiteleys Shopping Centre. The Nomad Cinema presents this year’s hit Brit-com for a bargain £8 per ticket.
Sitcom to silver screen transitions are rarely successful, either artistically or financially, but this summer a plucky British film bucked that trend. The Inbetweeners Movie is currently the UK’s third highest grossing film of 2011, just behind that other plucky British film, The King’s Speech. Unlike that film, The Inbetweeners are unlikely to win any Oscars, but fans of the TV show turned out in their droves to watch their cinematic debut, and good word of mouth kept the tills ringing. The plot, which takes the boys out of school and on the pull in Greece, plays second fiddle to a string of comic set pieces stuffed full of broad but irresistibly funny gags.
This winter The Nomad Cinema takes up residence at Whiteleys Shopping Centre, screening a mixture of recent releases and classic films from all eras.
* This new pop-up cinema concept, created by FITCH and The Nomad, can be found in the space vacated by Books Etc.
* Cinematic décor comes courtesy of an exhibition of vintage film posters from The Reel Picture Company.
* The Vestal Vodka pop-up bar will serve curated cocktails, wine, beer and popcorn, with ice cream available from the Oddono’s Gelati stall (only food and drink bought on site is allowed in the cinema).
* The most unusual cinema seating you’ll ever experience includes beanbags, inflatable wedges, directors chairs and a swing bench, plus there’s tiered seating for the more traditional among you.
*And if you spend £10 or more at one of Whiteleys’ restaurants, you’ll be given a voucher that can be exchanged for one free cinema ticket (subject to availability).
