The Nomad and headline sponsor Saab present The Saab Independent Thinking Season.
A key part of the Nomad’s summer pop-up cinema programme, the Saab Season presents original, ground-breaking films, featuring the work of extraordinary writers, directors and actors who challenged and changed the rules.
More often than not, the films we’ve chosen for the Saab Season also contain an outstanding script, a breath-taking soundtrack, the performance of a lifetime, exceptional cinematography or all of the above. Above all, the Independent Thinking Season is about originality and quality.
The Saab Season kicked off on Friday 20th May with David Fincher’s Fight Club at York Hall, one of Britain’s best known boxing venues, situated in London’s East End. The Independent Thinking Season will include a whole series of screenings at this legendary venue, all focused around acclaimed fight-related films. Next up is Scorsese’s masterpiece, Raging Bull, complete with a live performance of Pietro Mascagni’s beautiful theme.
Other highlights of the Independent Thinking programme of films include Hitchcock’s terrifying classic The Birds at Bushy Park; Kubrick’s sci-fi masterpiece 2001: Space Odyssey, at Greenwich Park; Wes Anderson’s kooky The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou at Brockwell Lido and Werner Herzog’s unique and unforgettable Fitzcarraldo at Hyde Park Lido.
The Saab Independent Thinking Season continues throughout the summer, popping up across a wide range of the stunning and unique locations in The Nomad’s calendar. If you like to be moved, to feel you’re watching something important, a piece of cinematic history that paved the way for other films, then look out for the films in The Saab Season. As you browse our website, you’ll see the Independent Thinking stamp on the event listings for each and every Saab Season film.
The Independent Thinking Season, and the Nomad experience as a whole, reflects Saab’s innovative and thought-provoking ethos. Andy Biernacki, National Communications Manager at Saab explains:
“The Nomad is an exciting and engaging new way to experience cinema and aligns perfectly with Saab’s own culture of challenging convention”
The Saab ethos is all about clever ideas and an independent spirit - which also owes something to the company’s Scandinavian roots. “It could be the climate. Or the light. Whatever the reason, we do things a little differently in Scandinavia. It shows in our uncomplicated design language and innovative solutions – it’s this approach that has led to groundbreaking features such as the turbo, BioPower and XWD. After all, why accept the conventional if there’s a better way?”
Look out for the Saab Independent Thinking Season stamp of originality as a key to the very best films on The Nomad’s cinematic tour.
