BING! Meantime and The Nomad’s Summer Cinema weekend comes to a close with one of the best loved comedies of all time, fittingly at the place where each and every new day and year officially begins.

Bill Murray stars as Phil Connors, a Pittsburgh weather man forced by the network to leave his beloved city and head into the sticks to the town of Punxsatawney to cover their annual ‘Groundhog Day’, where the actions of the titular creature upon leaving his winter dwellings are watched by an adoring crowd as it apparently forecasts the weather for the year to come. Connors gets down there, takes the p*ss and retires to his room for the night for a well-earned sleep. But when Phil awakens bright and early the next day, things seem strangely familiar…

Murray’s reunion with his Ghostbusters buddy Harold Ramis (this time in the director’s chair) was an immediate success around the world and It’s not hard to see why. When Bill Murray is enjoying himself on screen, only those with a heart of stone could fail to join in. The film stands as a lasting testament to Murray’s towering mix of sarcasm and self-depreciation and his performance even manages to make co-star Andie MacDowell halfway likeable (no mean feat). Sterling support from the likes of Chris Elliott and Stephen Toblowsky (Bing!) helped catapult this corker of a comedy into the public consciousness and made a generation of early morning DJ’s line up Sonny and Cher for their 6am record.

Make sure you get there before the sun sets as you’ll be treated to a very special appearance by our very own celebrity weatherman - the charming and funny Tomasz Schafernaker - with a name almost as hard to spell as Groundhog Day’s Punxsatawny Phil! We’re looking forward to a montage of some of Tomasz’s most fabulous TV moments, followed by an intimate anecdote or two from Tomasz on being a weatherman, topped off by our own personal weather forecast…

No picnics at this one please folks - local heroes Meantime Brewing will be running a fantastic beer tent and Airstream Alfresco will be serving up a feast of hot and cold food from their curvaceous caravan.
